Why I love my Mother's Day TV

For years, we peered from a distance at a 24" tv. Technology might have moved since it was bought, but it worked fine. And frankly we didn't know any better.

So what if I couldn't see the screen properly? I'm getting on and it's only to be expected at my age.

And then, for Mother's Day this year, I was given a new tv.

I grumbled a little. After all, what were we to do with the old one? There was nothing wrong with it, but nobody would want it because they all had large flatscreens. And this new one is a 42" - and sat uncomfortably large in the tv corner.

Valiantly, I overcame my objections and forced myself to watch - and was instantly smitten as I was transported to a magical wonderland. Whatever I watch now, it's like I'm really there. We popped The Sound Of Music (hooray) into the Blu-ray player and I could very nearly breathe the fresh mountain air. John Barrowman is practically life-sized. And as for Pobol Y Cwm - well, it's exactly as though I'm back in Wales.

I can actually see the screen properly - without squinting. Every viewing is a cinema experience. And it's largeness has quickly been accommodated so it now looks as though it belongs.

Now I'm only cross we didn't get a bigger telly years ago.

Other news:

Lovely Teresa has tagged me: Ten random things coming soon :0)

New Voices excitement has arrived again. I've decided not to enter this year - my nerves couldn't stand it. But (in alphabetical order) Minx Catherine Coles and Minx Romy Sommer have both posted up fantastic chapters (they really are good - and I'm not just saying that because they're friends). Click on their names to read their entries.

And can I ask you to please send positive vibes for dry weather over the Ochil Hills this weekend? My wee angel and friends are currently in the wilds with rucksacks and tents on their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Awards expedition. And the weather aint good. :0(

Looking forward to your "Top Ten" Suzanne. x

We have the smallest tv in the world. You have to sit virtually on top of it to watch it. We haven't quite entered the age of TV-you-can-see-easily yet.

Hi Suzanne,
And speaking of televisions, Can you keep this a secret? The only reason I went over to stay with my friends in Canada was because the have a 55 inch high definition television! :)
And I do hope the weather was somewhat decent over the rest of the weekend for your wee angel and friends. My son was at Mount Snowdon on Saturday and he told me he couldn't see any view from the top, because of the clouds. Yikes!
And thanks for reminding me, I need a larger telly :)
Take good care,
Gary x

I don't know where the Ochil Hills are but I hope they're having better weather than us. Here on Exmoor it's been bucketing down for hours, and it's more than a bit breezy, too!

Glad you're enjoying your present. We still have our 14" tv (though we did upgrade to a flat screen a few years back) so 24" sounds positively gigantic to me!

We never realise we cant do without the latest technological wizardry until we get the latest technological wizardry - do we?

Actually that probably makes no sense at all - but then it is 5am!

Sending sunny vibes to your wee one! x

We only updated our telly-box last year, to a flat-screen 32-inch. They say size doesn't matter but although it's not as big as yours, it's still nice not to be squinting at the screen!

Sending good vibes for sunshine in the Hills :o)

I love our large tv and can't imagine having to go back to a smaller one now.

Good luck to your daughter and her friends.

We're still using an old TV although I am constantly nagged at to buy a newer & bigger one. We'll get a new one some day but I generally prefer the radio hence I have a radio in every room including the downstairs toilet!

Hi, Teresa – and he’s just as gorgeous as in real life, too :0). Thank you for your good wishes, but the weather was horrid. XX

Hi Caroline – on its way. XX

Hi Fran – I’m on the verge of needing reading glasses so I think the tv arrived at just the right time :0)

Hi Suzanne – some very good NV entries this year and I’ve spent far too long reading them :0)

Hi Gary – if my friends had a 55” HD tv they’d never get rid of me. :0) Oh, your poor son – all that effort and no view at the end of it. XX

Aw, thank you, Lacey. XX

Thank you, Colette. We’ve had a couple of good days since. :0)

Hi Joanne – I always sing along, much to the horror of those around me :0)

Hi Gail – hope your weather’s improved. And yes, it is all relative.

Thank you, Patsy. Sadly not. But at least it’s put her off doing silver, so I won’t have to worry about her being out for two nights.

Hi Nas – I’m working on the list :0)

Hi Mandy – and I know exactly what you mean :0) XX

Hi Karen – I so agree, great to be able to see the picture :0)

Hi Debs – I definitely wouldn’t give my new tv up :0)

Hi Delcatto – I have been told I can listen to the radio on this tv (if I knew how to tune it to the right station). What will they think of next? :0)
